The Ancient Fortress Kaliakra was successfully used by Thracians, Romans, Bulgarians and Byzantines.  The fortress consisted of two parts: inner and outer town. The first wall protected the town from the direction of land. These lands were once inhabited by a Thracian tribe, called Tirisis, which built the fortified walls, which remains stand 2 meters high and 440 meters long. In the outer town were discovered remains of many buildings. Visitors can see a large building from the 4th century AD, that has been preserved till this day, along with an almost completely preserved vaulted mason tomb from the same period. Around cape Kaliakra can be found several medieval churches.
