Roman Baths

The Roman Baths are situated in Varna. They are part of the ancient city of Odessos. The area that the Roman baths cover makes them the largest ancient public building in Bulgaria. The architectural style in which they are built is called “opus mixtum”, alternating stone and brick belts. This shows that the building was built in the end of the 2nd and beginning of 3rd century AD.
This is proven from the found coins on the site, which date back to the rule of Emperor Septimius Severus (193-211). These Roman Baths have two entrances with bathing rooms with three different temperatures, swimming pools, underground galleries and more. A lot of architectural details can be found there, along with statues of the Roman gods Mercury, Hercales, Hygia etc. This shows the beauty, richness and magnificence in the interior decoration of the museum.
